When Was the Last Time You Cleaned Your Phone, Keys or Earbuds?

NEWS & INSIGHTS · 26 OCTOBER 2026 · TEZERITECH

The everyday items we use most are often the ones we forget to clean. Your phone travels from your desk to your bag, restaurant tables and back home. Keys, earbuds and watches follow a similar routine, yet they rarely receive the same attention as our hands or household surfaces.

They do not always look dirty. That makes a simple, consistent care routine easy to overlook.

Everyday belongings deserve regular care. Always check an item’s size and material compatibility before placing it in a UV care device.

The everyday items we often overlook

Phones

From morning alarms to late-night messages, phones move between our hands, pockets, bags and different surfaces. Follow your phone manufacturer’s cleaning instructions, including guidance for the screen, case, ports and coatings. A product that is appropriate for one device may not be suitable for another.

Earbuds

Earbuds come into frequent contact with ears and hands. Cleaning helps remove visible earwax and debris, but delicate speaker meshes, charging contacts and removable tips may need different care. Use the method recommended for your model and let components dry as directed.

Keys and small accessories

Keys, watches and glasses travel with us throughout the day. Check the care instructions for each material and finish, especially where an accessory includes electronics, coatings, adhesives or leather. The aim is a practical habit, without treating every item in the same way.

Cleaning and UV care serve different purposes

Cleaning physically removes dirt, oils and other residues. It remains the starting point for everyday care.

UV-C technology can inactivate microorganisms under suitable conditions, but the result depends on the UV dose reaching the surface, exposure time and coverage. Shadows, overlapping objects and complex shapes can limit exposure. A general explanation of UV-C technology is not evidence of a particular device’s performance.

For phones and other personal accessories, confirm compatibility with both the item manufacturer and the UV device instructions before use. UV care is an additional step; it does not replace regular cleaning or guarantee that every surface has been treated.

A routine that fits everyday life

Keep the process simple and follow the instructions for the belongings you actually use:

  • Check the item first. Review its cleaning instructions and remove visible dirt or residue using an approved method.
  • Confirm fit and compatibility. If adding UV care, check that the item and its materials are suitable for the selected device. Do not assume that every phone, accessory or coating is compatible.
  • Load and operate as directed. Follow the device’s loading and cycle instructions. Avoid crowding or stacking where it prevents the intended exposure.
  • Keep safety features intact. Keep the lid closed during operation, never bypass protective mechanisms and avoid direct UV-C exposure to skin or eyes.

There is no single cleaning schedule that suits every item or user. Build a routine around how you use your belongings, visible buildup and the manufacturer’s guidance.

Start with the items you use most

Better everyday care can begin with a small change: checking your phone’s cleaning instructions, removing buildup from earbuds or giving frequently handled accessories more attention. Choose a routine you can maintain and use any additional care device only as directed.
